As a consequence of rapid social and economical transformation in the '90s in Hungary regional inequalities are significantly restructured. These changes are perceptible in altering economic, environmental conditions and social structure but show up in different intensity. Reviewing these changes Central Transdanubia today has more favourable position than the other parts of the country.
In this study the authors introduce the formation and transformation of regional differences, present state of the Region through some determining processes like natural resources, landscape and settlement structures, social changes and different economic development.
The essay flashes that the composition of the searched factors is favourable on the whole and their impacts intensify each other. Nevertheless there are many internal peripheries where regional inequalities are stabled and deepened in some cases. To maintain the dynamism of the Region more polarised development and effective management of inequalities is necessary. This changing process could perform by increasing local competitiveness and further reduction of underdeveloped areas' disadvantages.
