The population changing processes of the Hungarian settlements are relatively well-known, but with some special quantiative methods we can give further details in this topic. In this article we tried to use three quantitative methods to descibe the details of the population changes of the settlements. In the first method we created settlement types with the combination of the population change and the migration balance. Secondly we investigated the role of the different settlemnt types (suburban villages, touristic attractions, roma villages, etc.) among the settlements with increasing population. Thirdly we created a so called „population change index" with the combination of the population change by absolute number and by rates. With this index we can sort the most dynarnic and the fastest decreasing settlements.
