Abstract

Suburbanisation is one of the most conspicuous phenomenons of our days. The urban population, the services and often workplaces move out from the city to the surrounding settlements. This is a decentralisation process, in the course of which the individual places of the human life (fiat, workplace, nursery, school, services etc.) locate more and more far away and dispersedly in the geographical space. One of the most important consequences of this process is that traffic needs growing faster than the population. However, the major problem is that the lifestyle of the suburban population (changing working time, acattered services, etc.) less and less allows choosing the public transport for their daily moving, leastways in the recens forms of it. For this reason the individual traffic and cars play more and more significant role in the satisfaction of the growing traffic needs. Considering our inflexible and inefficient public transport systems this rate likelihood will increase in the future. In our study we raise these problems in the base of empirical surveys of Gy őr. Nowadays, Gy őr is the largest commuting target city (compete with Székesfehérvár), some thirty thousand people arrive to the city every day for work, first of all from the surrounding settlements. This number is continuously growing and not only because of the economic development, but also the moving out of the active population.
